Mistral AI Raises €3 Billion, Valuation Reaches $24 Billion

Paris, September 8, 2026 — French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI has raised €3 billion in a new funding round, bringing its valuation to approximately €21 billion, or about $24 billion.
The Series D funding round was jointly led by existing investor PSG Equity, Samsung Electronics and the EU-backed Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT. According to Mistral, the investment represents the largest equity funding round ever completed by a European technology company.

Founded in France in 2023, Mistral AI has quickly become one of Europe’s leading artificial intelligence companies. The company develops advanced AI models and promotes an open-weight approach, allowing organizations to deploy and adapt AI systems according to their needs.
Mistral said the new funding will support frontier AI research, expand its computing and data-center infrastructure, develop new products and accelerate its international growth. The company is also working to increase its computing capacity as demand for AI services continues to rise.

The investment comes as European companies and governments seek to strengthen the region’s position in the global artificial intelligence race. Mistral has positioned itself as a European alternative to major U.S. AI companies, with a focus on open-weight models, infrastructure and what it describes as sovereign AI.
The company currently operates internationally and serves more than 125 enterprises, according to company information reported by European media. Mistral expects its annual recurring revenue to exceed $1 billion by the end of 2026.

Samsung’s investment also highlights the growing connection between artificial intelligence and the semiconductor industry. The two companies have announced a strategic partnership focused on using Mistral’s AI technology across Samsung’s semiconductor operations.

The latest funding round strengthens Mistral AI’s position as one of Europe’s most closely watched AI startups and reflects the increasing global competition for leadership in artificial intelligence.
